Dr Monique Faleafa

DClinPsy, Registered Clinical Psychologist

With a background in clinical psychology and mental health research, Monique has worked with Pacific young people in the social services, youth justice and mental health sectors for the past ten years. More recently she has held a position at the University of Auckland as a Pacific clinical consultant for child and adolescent mental health workforce development.

Monique's doctoral thesis was in the field of cross-cultural neuropsychology, of which she was a Foundation for Research, Science & Technology Top Achiever Doctoral award winner and was invited to present at various international conferences.

Monique currently holds the position of national manager for Le Va, the Pacific programme within Te Pou, The National Centre for Mental Health Research, Information and Workforce Development. Le Va's work focuses on Pacific mental health workforce development, research and information.

Monique is a guest lecturer at the University of Auckland and has published in various Pacific books and compilations as well as the Professional Practice of Psychology in Aotearoa New Zealand edited book.

While her surname, adopted from her husband, is of Tongan descent (Faleafā from Kolomotu'a, Tongatapu), Monique is of Samoan descent (Niumata) from Lano village on Savaii and Fusi village at Safata on Upolu.
