Siautu Alefaio

Siautu Alefaio MA, PGDipEdPsych, Registered Psychologist

Siautu was born in New Zealand of Samoan descent and has over 10 years' experience in the field of community development across a range of psychology services and settings. These have included Child Youth and Family Services - Specialist Services, Youth Mental Health, Ministry of Education (Special Education, National Office Policy Development, Manurewa Enhancement Initiative), Monash University (short-course lecturer), Department of Corrections and most recently her new appointment as senior professional clinician with the School of Psychology, Massey University.

Siautu is currently a member of the New Zealand Psychologists Board, New Zealand Psychological Society and Pasifika advisory board member for Counties Manukau Police. She is passionately involved in community development i.e. Pasifika community forums, youth mentoring, church communities development, Fetal Alcohol Network New Zealand and special needs affiliates. Siautu has taught and trained youth development and counselling skills in Fiji, Samoa and Melbourne (Monash University), has published in ‘Penina Uliuli: Contemporary Challenges in Mental Health for Pacific Peoples' and has been redeveloping the Saili Matagi programme for the Department of Corrections, a violence prevention rehabilitation programme for Pacific male violent offenders.

Siautu is also currently pursuing further research through Monash University, exploring a Pacific worldview in psychology.
