Ailaoa Aoina is of Samoan descent with connections to the villages of Satapuala, Malie, Saliemoa and Safune. For the past five years Ailaoa has been working part-time as a Psychologist at Takanga A Fohe - Isa Lei, Pacific Community Mental Health. She also does part-time contract work for Alliance Health providing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy patients at six South Auckland GP services and is part of the Diabetes Programme for another South Auckland Medical Centre. Prior to this she did placements at Child Youth & Family Specialist Services in the Bay of Plenty and South Auckland.
Ailaoa has been working with children, young people and families for the past 30 years in the Social Work field for the Ministry of Social Development covering a variety of roles including Social Worker, Supervisor, Evidential Interviewer, Practice Consultant, and Site Manager. She currently also works part-time in the weekends (night shift) co-managing the After Hours Emergency Service at Child Youth & Family Service, National Contact Centre. Ailaoa also provides external clinical/cultural supervision to social workers.
Ailaoa is the Secretary of the Executive Team of Pasifikology (Collective of Pacific Psychologists, researchers, and students). Ailaoa has been involved with the Mana Moana: Journey to Motu-Tapu since 2013.
