Denise Kingi-ulu'ave

PGDClinPsy, MA, BA (Hons), Registered Clinical Psychologist

Denise was born and raised in Rotorua and is of Tongan (Kolofo’ou, Nuku’alofa) and Palagi descent. She and her husband have 3 adult children.

Denise is a registered clinical psychologist and currently holds a senior manager position at Le Va which is a Pasifika non-government national organisation based in Auckland. 

Denise is responsible for providing clinical leadership direction and oversight across Le Va’s programmes of work (Mental health, addictions, disability, public health and sports) and is honoured to lead New Zealand’s first national Pasifika suicide prevention programme FLO: Pasifika for Life which is funded by the Ministry of Health.

Denise has published in several journals and provides clinical and cultural advice on numerous projects and advisory groups.  In her career as a psychologist Denise has worked in a range of organisations including:  Department of Corrections - Psychological Service (NZ), Child and Adolescent mental health service (Canberra, Australia) and MidCentral DHB Adult mental health and Maori mental health services. Denise also established Pasifika services in her role as Pacific Portfolio Manager for MidCentral DHB Funding and Planning. She currently chairs Pasifikology.
