Dr Elizabeth Mati

Elizabeth’s father hails from the village of Sa’anapu, Upolu and her mother is of Irish descent. She was born and raised in East Auckland, and currently resides there with her partner, and two daughters.
Elizabeth Mati is a registered Clinical Psychologist and has been working in Vaka Toa, a Pacific Child and Adolescent Mental Health team in South Auckland, since April 2014. Prior to this, she completed her year-long internship at the Department of Corrections in Manukau, where she mostly worked with female offenders. During her studies, Elizabeth was extensively involved in the University of Auckland Tuakana Programme providing academic and pastoral care to Pacific students in the Psychology and Management Departments, while her doctoral thesis explored the experiences of Maori and Pasifika young people who offend. Elizabeth has also been providing support to LeVa since 2013 in their work with the NRL and participated in the LeVa Le Tautua Alumni Leadership Programme in 2016. Elizabeth is particularly interested in the development of Pacific therapies catering to NZ born Pasifika.
